Interdisciplinary Studies Development

A major focus of my work at the University of Toronto is in leading ongoing development of the new Interdisciplinary Music Studies (IMS) programme in my role as inaugural programme director. The Interdisciplinary Studies programme provides students with skills and credentials as professional musicians while encouraging them to explore multiple interests and integrate these into their career plans. The first two years of the curriculum emphasize creative professional identity development, and the second two years emphasize autonomy and self-initiated projects; students graduate with a Bachelor of Music but can take up to 8 credits (equivalent to a Major) in a discipline outside music, or pursue multiple music specializations simultaneously such as composition, technology, business, musicology, theory, history, conducting, or performance.
